Working together on a board
One person edits a board at a time: how view mode, requesting to edit and handing over work, and how autosave fits in.
Everyone in a workspace can open the same board at the same time, but only one person edits it at a time; everyone else is in view mode. That way two people never overwrite each other's changes to the same card.
Who's editing
- When you open a board nobody is editing, you can edit it straight away.
- If someone else is editing, the top bar says Alex is editing — you're viewing (with the editor's name).
- When others have the board open, a green dot shows Alex also on this board. Your own other tabs on the same board are listed too.
Request to edit
In view mode, choose Request to edit in the top bar.
The top bar shows Requested — hands over within N s. The person editing is asked whether to hand over now or keep editing.
If they choose Hand over now, or don't respond within 30 seconds, editing passes to you and you see You can edit now. If they choose Keep editing, you're told Alex kept editing.
Only one request can be open at a time. If the requester's tab sits in the background for more than 15 seconds, the request is dropped.
When someone asks while you're editing
The top bar shows Alex asked to take over editing — hands over in N s:
- Hand over now: your unsaved changes are saved first, then editing passes over.
- Keep editing: you keep editing, and they're told.
If you don't choose within 30 seconds, editing passes over automatically. Closing the page also releases it.
You keep editing only while the page is in the foreground. If the board you're editing sits in a background tab for about 30 seconds, editing is released and someone else can take it.
Autosave
A board saves itself about a second after each change; next to its name you'll see Saving…, Saved or Save failed. Other people's changes come in every few seconds.
If editing moves away without you handing it over — for example after the page sat in the background — you'll see Editing moved elsewhere — the last few seconds of changes were rolled back. The board reloads the latest version and the undo history is cleared.
What you can do in view mode
| You can | You can't |
|---|---|
| Pan, zoom and preview full size | Rename the board or change cards |
| Download single assets and zip image groups | Generate, upload, paste or drop files |
| Open an image group to see every picture | Apply skills or register avatars |
| Browse the assets, skills, characters and scenes panels | Change anything in those panels |
People without edit permission in the workspace can only view, and don't see Request to edit.
