Canvas update: numbered reference rows, shot cards and mouse mode
Built from a creator's feedback: one row and one port per reference, a card for every shot, image versions, a selection box, wheel-to-zoom mouse mode, and asset storage you can see.
This release started with a detailed list of feedback from a creator who uses Canvas every day for short dramas and product videos. We worked through every item on it, and all of them are now live. Here is what changed.
One row per reference, so "image 1" is never a guess
Image and video prompt cards used to have a single input. Every reference went into the same point, and which picture was "image 1" depended on the order the wires were drawn in.
Now each reference gets its own row with its own port, and a number:
- The row order is the order the model receives the references. Drag a row to change it.
- Insert at the end of a row puts that reference's tag at the cursor in your prompt — even before anything is wired into the row.
- Video prompts show the ports their mode needs: Reference takes several reference rows; Frames has fixed Start and End rows; Edit and Extend start with the Source clip.
If a row is empty, a start frame is missing or a picture is still rendering, Canvas tells you before you generate, instead of sending references with the wrong numbers.
A card for every shot
A storyboard can now be one card per shot. Choose Split into shot cards on a shot list and each shot gets its own card, with its frame and its clip wired after it — one row per shot.
- A newly drafted shot list is split into cards automatically.
- Shot cards and the shot table are the same data: edit a card and the table follows, edit the table and the card follows.
- Each row in the table has Locate, which takes you to that shot's card.
- Before rendering frames in bulk, Choose frames to generate lets you pick the shots and shows the count and estimated cost. Only shots without a frame are ticked to start with.
Regenerating keeps the previous picture
Regenerating a frame or an image no longer replaces the old one. Every version stays on the same card, and the ‹ v2/3 › control switches between them. A shot's clip is made from the version the card shows, and a clip made from an older version says so.
Selection box and mouse mode
- Selection box: drag on empty space to select several cards. Pan with the middle mouse button, by right-dragging empty space, or by holding Space and dragging.
- Two input modes: in Canvas shortcuts at the bottom left, choose Trackpad or Mouse. Trackpad mode keeps two-finger panning and pinch to zoom; in mouse mode the scroll wheel zooms. When Canvas notices a mouse wheel, it offers to switch once.
- No accidental clicks while selecting: with several cards selected, or while holding ⌘ / Ctrl, clicking a card only changes the selection — it never presses a button on the card.
- Duplicate a card: the copy button on a prompt card, or ⌘ / Ctrl + D, copies the prompt, settings and input wires, so you can compare two versions of a prompt side by side.
- Shortcuts moved to the bottom left: the tips that sat across the top of the board now live behind the keyboard button, and open once the first time you use Canvas.
Asset storage you can see
The balance button in the top bar now shows a storage ring. It warns you when storage is almost full, and its menu shows what is left and takes you to clean up. If there is no room for a result, the render is stopped before it starts, so you are not charged.
Storage by plan: Free 250 MB, Starter 5 GB, Growth 25 GB and Scale 100 GB. See Asset storage. The in-app plans page now lists the Free plan too, for comparison.
